I’ve been meaning to write this for some time, but now that I have my new press in place, it seems the time is right.

I started printing a little more than two years ago– first on a Morgan Line O’Scribe, and then a Golding Pearl #1. I’ve been able to do this because of the wonderfully supportive letterpress community, here and on letpress and Briarpress and with great teachers at the Visual Arts Ctr in Richmond.

When I decided to upgrade to a larger press, I called John Barrett at Letterpress Things, who put me in touch with Steve at Antyke in RI, who sent me to Ed Regan of Printing Machinery Movers in Indiana. He happened to have a C&P 8×12 and also happened to be making a trip to Virginia, where I live.

He and his son Ed arrived in the rain and spent 7 hours unloading the gorgeous press, taking it down a small path by my house (over rocks and steps) and then into my kitchen, where it lives now. Not only that, he came back the next day to make sure she was aligned and printing well.

I can’t say enough about his restoration, the care he took in getting it to me, and his support in my first attempts at using the press. I highly recommend Ed and Ed– they are fabulous!!

This letterpress community is amazing. Every time I reach out with a question about printing, someone answers. I wish I could do like a big group hug or something 🙂

    Thanks, all!

Oh, the press is not so clean these days. But that’s fine with me.
