We’re in the early stages of figuring out the setup for a potential letterpress studio on the edge of the Crown Heights & Prospect Heights neighborhoods, in Brooklyn, NY. I’m curious to know if anyone out there would be interested in a letterpress studio facility with presses for use on a monthly rental basis.

The tentative plan for now is that we’d provide presses, a common supply of ink colors, some storage space for your own tools and projects, a large common work table, and likely a few other perks, for a flat monthly rate. The idea is that it would be really ideal for printers who have started doing a lot of printing on their own, want a studio space, but either can’t or don’t want to commit to a large press and a long term lease of their own in NYC. The potential space we’re looking will be a great working environment – beautiful lighting, windows, backyard – an open, white-walled gallery storefront space.

If you’re interested, feel free to leave a response here, or email me at maggie [at] campbellrawpress.com – I’d love to hear from you and answer any questions you might have to see if we can get this going!

So awesome that you’re doing this! You know (shameless conference promotion) that we’re having a panel at LofLCon on starting a community print shop, right? It would be great if you could come!

I did know about the conference, but not about that particular panel! I wish we could make it – we have 2 personal events 2 days in a row in completely different parts of the country right when it’s happening, though. Will there possibly be transcripts/video/audio available post-conference??

Tabling this for the moment…even the smallest cylinder press won’t fit through the door of the potential space, and we’d need to use cylinder presses for a co-op studio, so that just won’t do!
