Has anyone got any great tips to making white opaque ink really stand out on Kraft paper? Perhaps its the ink I’m using (‘Best One’) but its never really ‘white’ like the cards I see that have been screen printed in white on Kraft.

Sometimes you may need to hit it more than once to achieve the opacity you are looking for. A little trick that works sometimes as well is to use a little metallic silver with the white to provide some blocking.

You can also double-ink the press if the quantity you’re printing isn’t too high.

Good to note the addition of silver; I’ve letterpress printed PMS 877 Silver by first printing in opaque white, then doing a second pass with the silver ink. The opaque white seals the sheet and acts as a good primer for the silver to really stand out. Note that this is on a Windmill, where registration is precise; I’m not sure I would recommend this route for most other presses where registration is more difficult.

I used white on kraft for a holiday postcard. Luckily I didn’t have anything intricate printing in white so I was able to use a lot of ink, but it still won’t be as opaque as the screen printed versions you see. If you find an ink that works better, let me know!

Try adding a hint of light blue ink into the white ink. The blue helps it stand out on the brown kraft paper. Hope that’s what your looking for!
