About Me:
Heroes & Criminals Press is my small printing and binding venture nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. The press specializes in fine press and artist books, letterpress prints, and a variety of printed ephemera and chapbooks.

I studied iron casting as an undergrad at East Carolina University, and during the same time learned to repair books while working at a student job at the university library. Following a stint in book and paper conservation at the Northeast Document Conservation Center in Massachusetts, I moved to Iowa City where I earned an MFA in Printmaking and a certificate in Book Studies at the University of Iowa.

I now work as a studio artist, teach workshops at Asheville BookWorks, papermaking and book arts at Warren Wilson College, and intro to printmaking at Western Carolina University.

My book, Letterpress Now: A DIY Guide to New & Old Printing Methods, is now available at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Letterpress-Now-Guide-Printing-Methods/dp/145...), or get a personalized signed copy directly from me at my shop (http://www.jessica-c-white.com/Shop.html).

I am a co-founder and co-director, with Kseniya Thomas, of Ladies of Letterpress.

Dear  Jessica and Scott,

Congratulations on your newest criminal and hero! Milo is a fine-looking little pressman--impressive muscles and appearance. When my youngest was born in 1988, the family was printing a Gocco Press "Namaste ji" card, so we immediately decided to include Genevieve, by taking one foot and smearing it through the ink surface. Cards turned out great. Feel free to do likewise with Milo. The sooner we support "Babies" of Letterpress, the better. At this point Genevieve is four months pregnant with her first, so I may have to set up the Gocco for a reprise of the Mama's plunge of 26 years ago into the world of letterpress. Best wishes, David L. Kent, APA 599 and Genevieve Kent Elbaor APA 711.

Thanks for the welcome! What an incredible resource. I'm up in the hinterlands of Alaska where there are no letterpresses to be found, but oh, I want one. So I'll be trying to absorb everything I can from you wonderful people.

Thanks for the welcome, Jessica! I see you've done events in Lexington, KY in the past—I'm in Louisville. I hope our paths cross sometime!

So glad to see "ladies" being printers! Years ago (1963-65) I took printing in high school w/3.5 grade avg. Guys in my class got hired at American Greetings so I also applied there. They said they had "No women printers" so wouldn't consider it. Nice to see a little progress being made to accept females into the good ol' boy's world.
