BookOpolis 2009

I'm getting back to work after a fun-filled weekend at BookOpolis, a two-day festival held at Asheville BookWorks (in Asheville, NC). Friday night was the opening reception for the exhibit on display at BookWorks, and we were treated to wine, snacks, and beautiful accordion music. Saturday was hands-on day, where visitors could stop by to watch printing, binding, and papermaking demos, but also stick around to do some of their own. We were swamped with visitors that day, and I had so much fun… Continue

Type week continues

With a new Type site (or new in May), Typedia. It's a user-created site in the spirit of IMDB and Wikipedia; it classifies type, shows examples, and has copious notes on type history and designers themselves. There's also a discussion forum and a learning center with type origins and terminology:

Creating a free account allows you to… Continue

10 for $10 at

Though I just heard the recession is over . . . ahem . . . saving money is still nice. is here to help: they have thousands of typefaces, most of them affordable, but below you can find ten pretty great ones, all for $10. I really love Anivers, as well as Fenwick, which looks to… Continue

Calligraphy on demand

I love the direction calligraphy has gone in the last few years: more organic, and less rigid, so that it's more like perfect handwriting than Chancery (which is also nice, of course). That's why I was excited to see Nellie Script, the new type from Tart Workshop:…

There are over 90 Ning Apps so far, with more coming. I've added one for WordPress, which, if you have a WordPress blog, allows you to automatically show posts here as well as on your WordPress blog. Just go to the WP tab… Continue

Golding Pearl

I thought I would pass this on since there is no way for me to take advantage of this great opportunity.

This was posted on Briar Press and I checked it out and it looks great, but it's in Illinois and I'm in Oregon. (sigh)

Maybe it will be fortuitous for someone here:

See Posting on Craigslist for Pearl Press in Herrin, Southern Illinois.
