Starshaped Press is looking for an intern to start anytime in the near future, and thought we'd try here first!
We are located in Chicago and work strictly with hand set metal and wood type. We have an extensive type collection that is a living, breathing monster in our studio that needs to be maintained. Duties would include sorting, setting, organizing, labeling, proofing and otherwise monitoring the type (mostly metal) so that we can make sure that it all gets used… Continue

This Saturday, May 1st, is the annual type, etc. sale up at the Platen Press Museum in Zion IL (about an hour north of Chicago). It runs from 9-2, and you'll be able to find just about everything you need to get started in printing that you might not already have. There will be a ton of metal type priced to go, as well as all the other bits and pieces at what I think are very reasonable prices. Some of the Starshaped ladies will be there to help out, and if you stick around til… Continue

In honor of those that have made this milestone happen, we’re throwing the open house to end all open houses, including giveaways (extra special for the first 20 guests!), recession era pricing on all of our prints (yes, all!) and… Continue

This weekend (Oct. 3rd and 4th) is the annual Ravenswood ArtWalk in Chicago. Many of the lovely ladies of letterpress will be showing off their studios all weekend, Starshaped included. We're drying our Olympic-sized tears on the 100lb cover stock we're using to set up Chicago-style 'flags' for the general public to come and print. Rally with us and come on over for treats and good conversation. We'll also be setting up new prints we're working on for the Fall and the holidays.… Continue
