Questions from someone starting a letterpress business

Hi all,

I’m starting a new letterpress business in Oakland, California and I have a few questions about the industry. I would really appreciate some feedback from those who have been in the business for a while. And of course, if you have any other advise or feedback, I’d really appreciate that as well.

I’ve created a survey with just 9 questions. Here is the link to it:

Hi Rebecca,

Welcome to LoL. You have a good survey there, but beware, some people might not want to divulge their secrets so freely! I think the best thing is instead of trying to do work like everyone else and seeing what works for them, print what you love and people will come to you for your style of work. It's a little rough carving out your niche the first few years, but I'm sure you have something to offer that hasn't been done yet :)

Read up on getting your work out there (blogs) and the proper etiquette associated with putting it out there, get a few good clients that can then refer you, and maybe do a little pro-bono if you can afford it.

I'd look into the Design*Sponge Biz ladies posts to help you in getting started and buy a copy of Craft, Inc. if you haven't already!

Best of luck, you are entering a fun and rewarding business.
