silver ink conundrum

    howdy! so i recently printed a block of silver on chipboard, then printed a block of purple over top of the silver. about 2 weeks later, the prints look as if the silver is coming through the purple, almost as if the silver was printed second…
    the ink is rubber base…
    is the lesson here that silver shouldn’t be a back color?
    or maybe the silver wasn’t dry enough before i printed the purple?
    maybe something with the chip board soaking up the purple more than the silver?
    anyone have any thoughts?

    Hi Pilar,Metallic inks are always oil-based, and it’s necessary to overprint using oil-based inks (nor rubber). Rubber-based inks also dry by absorption — not oxidation like oil-based inks — so the two don’t play together well. If you remember this in your next run you should be good to go!Lars.
