Hi Melissa, I order my custom die plates through Key Dies in PA. (http://keydies.com/industry_letterpress.htm) They are really great to work with and willing to work with a beginner and walk you through the process of how to order, when it comes to all the technical specifications. They also have a fast turn-around time for some fairly complex…[Read more]

Hi Melissa, recently ordered a 6″ circle die from Midwest Dies out of Wisconsin. They have an online quote generator, quick work-around time, and were easy to work with. Hope this helps!Kim

Tiffany Smith replied to the topic size of press decision in the forum Job Advice 11 years, 11 months ago
I’d go ahead and get a 12×18 if I had no barriers. If you’re comfortable with a machine of that size, I think it’ll totally be worthwhile. The printing area and strength of the press will be nice to have around, even if it is a giant beast of a machine. 🙂

Were you able to find a Chase for your Craftsman? I am looking for one as well and wanted to know where the best place would be.

I’ve heard a few people say they use the AccuCut Craft machines, but I haven’t tried them myself. I’m still cutting them by hand :/ lol!

Perhaps the more important question to ask is what am I interested in printing/think I can make a living printing. Are you looking at wedding/stationery? Broadsides/posters? Business cards etc??Surprised your friends didn’t gush about Vandercooks, since that seems to be a very popular press. The FAG is the Swiss version of the Van…[Read more]

Hi Kristina,My name is Leigh and Letterpress is completely new to me. I am feeling an obsession beginning to grown and am excited to learn more. I do think you may be a bit “crazy” but, in a kind, caring “kind of way” to let go of your press 🙂 I don’t live especially close to you, but this may be something worth the journey. Is it possi…[Read more]

I live in Virginia, unfortunately. I don’t even live in NoVa. If I lived closer, I would be so excited to borrow your press! I’d happily make room for such a thing in my workshop; it would be good friends with my Pilot and my Showcard, I’m sure. Alas, I’m not close enough!

Kseniya Thomas replied to the topic Dumb Question about Lettra in the forum Business Matters 12 years ago
Not dumb! I dampen Lettra sometimes to help with ink saturation–a damp sheet will require less ink and the solids will be more so. All I do is get a giant bag, spray inside it with water, and then spray every second or third sheet with water on both sides as I stack them in the bag. Then I seal up the bag, and put something heavy on top of the…[Read more]
