I’m on the hunt for an automatic counter that can edition prints. I know of one shop that has one, but still have no idea what the official name or brand is called in order to search more easily. There’s a picture of one on this blog:

Any help would be immensely appreciated!

I’m actually acquiring a c&p soon and the seller is also giving me a ton of extras they just want gone. They’re actually giving me a few of these counters. Some of them are ones that go right into the lock up, so every time they’re pushed they count a print. I’m picking the press and equipment up on Sunday, I can take pictures of some of these if you’re interested in buying one.

Yes! Can you email me the pictures? The one that advances automatically sounds like exactly what I am looking for, if it is compatible with a Vandercook.

    Thanks so much!

I’m not sure if these would be compatible with a Vandercook. I imagine they would work the same because they’re meant to work at type high just like anything else. As long as you don’t crush them too hard with the rollers it’d probably be fine.

I’ll send you an email with photos after I get them this Sunday! :]
    Glad to help

I’ve just acquired a C&P 8×12 Oldstyle that I’m cleaning up and bringing into printing condition. If you have compatible automatic counters, I might want to buy one, too.

I’m more interested in the kind of counters that keep track of how many prints have been run than the ones that go straight into the lockup and print the numbers on the edition. I hope that makes sense. Apologies in my terminology is off. I’m new to C&Ps. Thank you!

Hey I’m in the exact same situation! I’m getting a C&P 8×12 as well and while I’ve used Vandercooks a lot am pretty new to C&Ps. I believe the counter that goes into the lock up is not meant to be printed onto your paper. I think you’re supposed to set them outside of the printing area. Didn’t even know these counters existed until I visited my press. The printer who’s selling it to me has a lot of accumulated materials he’s giving to me that I may not actually need but he wants to give to me because he won’t need them either.

For instance I’ll have a few extra lock ups I can sell and some extra lead strips (if you’re interested in doing lead type).

I don’t remember if there were any extra large counters. I think there may be one, if any. If I can get your email too I can send you the same set of photos I send Samantha and you can make a choice from there. I’d say the chance of finding one that fits your press from this set is pretty good though, being that we have the same model and size.
