Internships at Women’s Studio Workshop

 

STUDIO INTERNSHIP

Each term, WSW hosts two studio interns who work directly with the Studio Manager. You?ll work on projects including printmaking, letterpress, papermaking, and book arts, in addition to assisting with the ongoing operations of the facility. Studio interns are crucial participants in WSW?s creative community. You?ll be asked to work hard, and in return will be encouraged, supported, and challenged in your artistic lives. http://bit.ly/1JhwqJS

Responsibilities:

• Completing studio projects including papermaking, screen printing, letterpress printing, and graphic design
• Assisting residents in the studio, as necessary, but especially for artist?s book production
• Acting as studio assistant for workshops and classes:
• Summer/fall term: Summer Art Institute and Art-in-Education
• Winter/spring term: Art-in-Education
• Maintaining studio functionality: servicing and troubleshooting equipment, performing organizational and cleaning projects, and turning over resident housing

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

You?ll perform independent work in the kitchen and work with the Studio Manager on all ArtFarm-related projects. This two-month internship runs through our Summer Art Institute (SAI) workshops. You?ll focus on honing culinary skills and agricultural knowledge as it relates to non-traditional papermaking fibers. Your work will directly contribute to WSW?s community by bringing staff and SAI participants together over a midday meal. http://bit.ly/1Huo9nC

 

Responsibilities:

• Planning weekly, rotating menus for staff and SAI students (an absolute cap of 45 people/day)
• Preparing mostly vegetarian lunches and accommodating allergies and special diets like vegan and gluten-free
• Grocery shopping: visiting supermarkets and weekend farmer?s markets to stock up on ingredients
• Maintaining and harvesting papermaking fibers, vegetables, and herbs at ArtFarm
• Cleaning and general maintenance on ArtFarm and of WSW?s kitchen facilities

NON-PROFIT MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP

This intern works directly with WSW?s Operations Manager under the leadership of the Executive Director, and gains experience by working alongside the staff of an established nonprofit arts organization. The intern will, among other things, undertake projects relating to public relations, fundraising, event planning, and arts administration. http://bit.ly/1JManj7

 

Responsibilities may include:

• Writing assignments, including donor letters, blog posts, and press releases?
• Short- and long-term marketing initiatives for email, direct mail, and social media?
• Maintaining WSW?s web presence on community calendars and across our media listings?
• Providing administrative support by processing memberships and donations, assisting in database work, managing email & phone communications, processing resident applications for jury review, and fulfilling artists? book orders?
• Participating in board meetings when possible

All internships include a private room in WSW?s on-campus Anne Atwood House and a stipend of $300/month. Interns work 40 hours/week, generally Monday through Friday, 9:00-5:00, but the schedule may change to accommodate the Workshop?s programming. Outside working hours, and with respect to residents? work, interns have unlimited studio access. The internship session can culminate in a group exhibition of work created during the term.
