Join WSW’s Artistic Director, Tatana Kellner, for 6 days of intensive and inspiring studio time at the Moray Art Centre. Taking a cue from our location, we?ll spend the week mapping new work in response to our immediate environment. Our inspiration will be both the natural and social worlds surrounding us. Through a series of guided exercises, we?ll examine the path taken by each one of us as artists navigating the contemporary world.

We?ll combine printmaking, drawing, photography, text and collage techniques to create complex works. Students will have the option to work with text as image or text and image, creating a series of individual but related works or a one-of-a-kind artist?s book. We will also cover basic book arts concepts and binding techniques.

We had an unforgettable experience in Scotland a couple of years ago, living and art-making in a remote, working lighthouse on the rugged west coast. This time, Susan Fateh, our Int’l Program Coordinator, has found excellent studios at the Findhorn Foundation. We?ll be staying in lovely guesthouses a short walk from the spacious studios. Findhorn is an intentional eco-community, one of the first in the world and was a model for the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY.

We?ll be working Findhorn?s Moray Art Centre, which features bright, airy, and spacious studios where each student will have a large work table for spreading out as they work. Lunch will be served in the lounge area of the Art Centre. Vegan, vegetarian, and/or gluten free dinners will be served in a private dining room within the Findhorn campus.

Mid-week we?ll take a half-day trip to Cawdor Castle, the inspiration for Shakespeare?s Macbeth.

In the evenings, you can take a lovely 20 minute walk into the Village of Findhorn for a stop at one of the fabulous pubs, and relax watching the long slow sunset over the Moray Firth. Since we will be in Scotland at solstice, when the days are long and luxuriously drawn out, the 10 pm sunset?s after glow keeps it light enough to walk home until the wee hours.
