I wasn’t sure which section to post this in but…

I am looking to move a press from LA to Seattle and wanted to know if anyone has advice on who I can contact to get an estimate that will ship this press reliably.

    Thank you!

I can’t suggest any west coast movers, but my advice is GET IT INSURED! Heard about a press that was destroyed in shipping by an incompetent “rigger.”

Hi Bunny,There should be plenty of riggers near you. What press are you moving? Can you lag bolt it to solid 4×4? Can you bolt it to a heavy duty skid? If so, you could build a crate around it, making sure to brace it good. Remove as many parts as you can and box those separately. Shipping is usually around $1.00 per pound. Any freight company can give you a quote. Insurance….make sure it is packaged properly. Many claims are denied due to improper packaging (using thin cartons with a couple of sheets of newspaper to ship a fragile table top cast iron press is going to arrive broken). Insurance is more for if THEY drop something and smash your package, run into it with a skid, lose it, etc.

Thank you Camille, after doing a bit of research and following your pricing guideline I decided it would just be too expensive to ship this press so I am going to keep looking for something more local to me. This one was a 12×18 C&P. I am going to keep an eye out for either a 10×15 or 12×18 and see what comes up here in Seattle.

    Thanks again!
