resources question: cutting mats, journals/notebooks

I have a couple of questions that I hope someone might be able to give me some feedback on.  First, I am interested in purchasing a cutting mat and knife.  

Is a mat like this a good choice?

And do folks use a rotary blade, or a pointed blade?

My other question is about finding a source for some small note books/journals with blank covers that I can print on my Pilot. Any resources out there?

Hi, I’ve been cutting Millboard and Davey board with a retractable blade Olfa knife for years. I have a 15 year old green self healing mat as well. They work really well. I cannot remember the site, but there is someone who makes blank, craft covered notebooks for printers and artists. I’ll see if I can find them.

Found the site. These are blank notebooks. Soft covers. Recycled.

I love them even without anything on the cover. They are in Portland.
