Penland School of Crafts is an international center for craft education located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. This summer, Penland will offer a range of workshops in letterpress printing in our dedicated letterpress studio. Workshops are open to serious students of all levels. Scholarships are available for all classes.
Summer 2016 workshops include:
- “Text as Image, Type as Thought” with Marianne Dages (experimental applications of traditional letterpress techniques; May 29 – June 10)
- “Kern, Baby, Kern” with Eleanor Annand and Colin Frazer (typography through hand-set type, polymer plates, digital, and more; June 12 – 24)
- “Modular Pattern Letterpress” with Dikko Faust (moiré, interference patterns, shifted and pinwheel prints, ink transparency, and color overlay techniques on the press; July 10 – 22)
- “Drawing with the Press” with Eileen Wallace (using handset type, carved blocks, and photopolymer plates to create imagery; July 24 – August 9)
