I would charge them for the paper, plates etc at the standard rate (purchase price plus surcharge) and charge the printing hours at a reasonable level. I don’t what how high that might be in the States, but in The Netherlands I explain to letterpress printers that a mechanic for your car would charge about 60?/hour, only for labor. I believe a letterpress printer should use more or less the same level.

Don’t worry about the final selling price by he designer. That is his/her issue, not yours.

We use Colorplan from GF Smith very often for letterpress jobs. Comes in 50 shades in 8 substances. It is my understanding that it is now also stocked in the USA.

    Otherwise check colorplanpapers.com

It might be a bit late for this purpose, but in Europe we have a paper called Woodside. The frontside looks like wood, the reverse side is a plain light brown kraft. In comes in one size approx 40×28″ and two substances: approx 80t and 145dtc.

It can be printed in offset, letterpress, foilprinting and screenprinting, but be aware that the surface is rather hard and will not easily give a deep impression.

Any questions, just let me know. We can ship smaller sizes as well.
