I curated a contemporary art show where I wanted to quote the lyrics to “Big Yellow Taxi” by Joni MItchell and somehow I got in touch with someone who represented her. I was told I had to pay around $100 to just print the lyrics on the press release. So, I didn’t print all the lyrics, just the line I was referring to in my exhibition. This is probably not helping, but I would imagine selling something and putting someone’s lyrics on it is some kind of infringement and you would need permission.
