I pulled my first print on a little manual proof press at Reed College, while I was working on my Physics thesis, and was instantly hooked. A couple of years later I realized that I wanted to be self-employed and letterpress seemed the obvious direction to head. I started EMprint Press in 2004, in the Bay Area. In 2006, I packed my studio into an enclosed trailer and headed back to my family’s ranch in South Dakota. In 2008, an opportunity in Portland, OR brought me back out to the west coast to start another letterpress studio. Now I’m a gypsy printer, splitting my time between my cozy studio on the ranch and my big beautiful space in Portland.
