I am a native Bay Area girl and feel so blessed to be here. I’ve always been in love with the printed word and all things handmade so when I found out that I could learn how to print at the SF Center for the Book from all the great instructors and printers there, I was ecstatic! I’ve been printing and learning ever since that first pull on a little Kelsey press.I admit it. I am a letterpress junkie. I’m addicted to the smell of ink and paper, and to the sound of the flywheel spinning at midnight. Our first press was a C+P Pilot, then a Vandercook 219 (which is now at the International Printing Museum being restored — long story!), then a C+P 10×15 NS (hand-fed, treadle only!!), and our most recent baby, a Heidelberg Windmill which starred in the movie Seven Pounds with Will Smith.Flybird Press, hatched by me and my husband, is a studio committed to the fine craft of letterpress and the belief that all things handcrafted are straight up “fly”. We enjoy collaborating with designers and would love to collaborate with other lady printers on some fun and creative projects.
