I’ve done it on a very nice laser printer at my office (a xerox digital press). It went through just fine on the highest setting (which is based on gsm). Just know that the printer can’t lay down large areas of toner without getting that “cracked” look on the lettra. I just used it for text and it worked just fine with oil based ink that had dried for a day.

Sorry no picture- I’ll see if I can dig one up.

Camille, thanks so much for all of your hard work putting this together! I’d say it really paid off! They are fabulous, and I will enjoy them every day since they will be hung in the pressroom. Great job ladies!

I’ve switched to Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits as a clean up now because the California Wash evaporates so fast, it was difficult to really clean the rollers. With mineral spirits I use less and it goes further. I do not keep a spare set of rollers.Hope that helps!

you’re so quick Camille! yes- that website is really helpful.just remember, not all type is equal. some of that old stuff could be worn down creating the unlevel look when adjusting. also remember, when adjusting- just a hair of adjustment could be all that is needed! these old machines are tricky, but that’s what makes them fun!

I’m having a pearl 11 (almost the same as the 3 but improved) moved into my basement tomorrow. It is going to be in 3 stages – the base, the press, and the wheel, treadle, chase (other removable parts).I had a small pearl no. 1 in the basement as well and all together that one weighed about what the main press of the no. 11 weighs. It’s manageable if you have some good friends 🙂

Really? Boxcar makes special plates for this machine? That surprises me about them since they seem a little like purists.

I just saw this on my paper source newsletter email and came here to see what people thought! I think it’s okay- but it will probably add a little pollution to the real craft of letterpress. It’ll be interesting to see what the consensus is.

I might be in for this- depending on the time my new press arrives… (ahem, camille)! Is there going to be a deadline for entries so we know a quantity? Are we sending to everyone involved or just a limited few?Great idea!

I do have a level surface, and checked that when I was all inked up. I know there is a thing as “over-tightening” as well… I tried a few things to no avail. I will be leveling this weekend. Thanks so much 🙂
