Bio

With a degree in Interior Design, Kathryn has a strong knowledge of design concepts. Then, when addressing invitation envelopes for her brother’s wedding 20 years ago, she fell in love with the art of calligraphy and has been writing ever since.

A traditional dip pen and oblique holder is her tool of choice, producing originals in the same manner as the old world master penmen. Kathryn’s calligraphy is recognized nationally and she has been featured in various publications, art periodicals, and stationery albums. Often working with various event planners and stationers across the United States. She has a commercial font she created with Delve Foundry, from her calligraphy.

Because Kathryn’s favorite printing method was letterpress, for years she had the desire to open a letterpress shop to bring her calligraphy creations to life. She and her father, aka pressman (a retired engineer) painstakingly searched and found a lovely green C&P from a shop in St. Petersburg, Florida.  My parents and I drove there to learn how to operate the machine, and was taught by an elderly, life-long printer named Mel.  My dad and I operated a small letterpress business in my garage for eight years.

In October of 2019, Kathryn and a close friend saw another dream come to fruition with a brick and mortar shop. It is called Paperwhite Stationery Boutique and has its own letterpress workshop behind a large antique window where visitors can see it in action. While Paperwhite offers various stationery lines, gifts, local artwork, and wedding accessories, the most popular items in the shop are custom created letterpress invitations.

Exploring new mediums and ideas, Kathryn continues to expand her creative talents but the art of writing and crafting with her hands remains the central focus of her work.
