Hello Ladies,
Does anyone have any recommendations for printing white ink on black stock? Paper and ink suggestions would be most appreciated. I’m just not sure if I need a different kind of white ink than the one I have (Vonson Rubber Based Opaque White). I’m afraid of it sinking into the black paper and not looking bright enough.

12 years, 9 months agoThe best advice is not to do it! Silver with some white in it is more opaque, but for bright white on black, foil is the best option. If the client is ok with a grayish white, you can hit it twice or skip feed, or lay down a layer of transparent white or clear varnish and then run the white.
12 years, 9 months agoThanks for the tips!Varnish or transparent while is a good idea. I might go with that.I was thinking of foil, too. I’ll have to talk to them about budget options if I do that, I suppose. It would also be the first time I would work with foil, which would be fun (hopefully?). Oh, but one thing, what does “skip feed” mean?Thank you!Samantha

12 years, 9 months agoMost white on black turns out like painting milk on a blackboard, with one exception I have found–using Van Son Opaque White on a paper called “So . . . Silk” produces amazingly opaque results. For some reason, the ink has an affinity for the paper. “So . . . Silk” is available through Legion Paper (or http://www.letterpresspaper.com).
12 years, 9 months agoWoah, this is excellent! I guess there’s some sort of coating on the So Silk that makes the white “float” better?
