Hello all – I am new to letterpress and would like to start off on a “green” foot. I would like to inquire about any tips you all have regarding eco-friendly materials…inks, paper, the works! My goal is to be a green letterpresser, while at the same time keeping quality high and costs low.

Thanks for the comments, glad you like our stuff! I just found that you were asking about “green” letterpress. We also offer this at our press. We use soy inks, paper with high PCW/windpower etc. But we also print with traditional inks – oil based inks. Honestly there isn’t a huge difference printing with soy vs. oil. They both are ink. Oh and another thing, is when you get rid of your rags after clean up, have a service do it or drop it off at one, they can dispose of them properly or have them cleaned and recycled. If you are interested in soy inks, check out the place we order it from….http://www.gansink.com. They also have some great info on their site. Also, Mohawk Paper has great info on their site and you can now order from them in smaller quantities, http://www.mohawkpaperstore.com/.Hope this helps! – toni, praxiumpress.com

I’m pretty excited about Caligo inks, which clean up with soap and water-If you find a way to replace plastic bag and boxed packaging let me know- that’s my latest search

I saw the post on those Caligo inks…and once I get a letterpress, they are on my list of things to try! I’ll have to keep looking for replacement/biodegradeable packaging.Have you tried these biodegradable bags?http://www.clearbags.com/card-reference

I have tried them, and wish that I liked them…. they are sort of crunchy and tear easily (there is a discussion on them somewhere in the forum).Maybe I’ll just have to switch to no bags…. I hate the thought of them all going to the dump, or worse, the ocean as soon as they are taken off of the cards.oh and you know Neenah paper has some good green option papers.and just for the fun of it, look at porridge papers site- they have some gorgeous hand made and recycled paper
