I forgot to add I’ll be keeping track of all the billing, invoices, purchase orders, etc using Quickbooks, this is just something to help collect data in one place for job pricing and also for my old-fashioned husband to have on hand when he’s actually doing the printing out in the shop.

I just used quad gauges for the first time (Kort) and the tongues touched the base, but they didn’t crush anything so just be cautious when trying it out for the first time but you should be good 🙂

FWIW, the way the double grips are the tongue has some room for compression and on the quads it’s more rigid and less forgiving.

I print on them all the time.. there can be some crackling but if you get the grain direction and pressure right its typically minimal.I sell them blank in my etsy shop for those who want to order smaller quantities than Katz sells.. ladybugpress.etsy.comI have used the neenah blotter too its not nearly as heavy but it is nice stuff… less…[Read more]

Hello,I have always gone back to Alembic Press’s Typecase Lay Selection: http://www.alembicpress.co.uk/Alembicprs/SELCASE.HTMAlso I believe Harry Carter’s A View of Early Typography: Up to about 1600 has some background on case layout. Updike’s History of Printing Types would be my third go-to book.Cheers,Ameliacary.rit.edu

I have no problem scoring lettra, though I always score with the grain. I use 2 pt rule and chipboard as the matrix.

On the double grip the tongue is fine. You have to make sure that you don’t print on the tongue though. Nothing bad happens if you do, it just bends it a little. You have to make sure that the actual body of the double grip doesn’t get crushed by the base. I’ll put my plate on the base in the bottom left with the crop marks right up against the…[Read more]

I like Henry Compressible Gage pin from NA Graphics. They are designed to be used with photopolymer plates. Before I discovered them, I made my own using 3M Double Sided Foam Tape and a section of transparency sheet.

I hate katz, they are cheap but the surface cracks really easily. I’ve heard neena blotter paper is best, but expensive
