Kate replied to the topic Where do you get you coaster stock (besides Katz America), and what thickness do you prefer? in the forum Supplies and Sources 12 years, 8 months ago
Thanks Shayna! I definitely hate the medium weight Katz. It’s just so flat, and hard to get a good impression without cracking in my experience.I think I’m going to try die-cutting. Have you done this before? Thanks again!

Hi Erica,You might try The Arm in Williamsburg or The Center for Book Arts. They both offer workshops, and The Arm allows to print in their delightful space for a fee-per-hour. You can also go to Briar Press and search their workshops section.Good luck!

Frank Sullivan replied to the topic Whats the best resource for ink? in the forum Supplies and Sources 12 years, 9 months ago
Hi Heather, When picking ink generally the paper determines which type of ink is best. Most papers that are absorbant can use any ink ie (rubber base or oil base even acrylic ) The rubber base drys only by absorbtion, no dryer is in the ink formula so it can stay on the rollers many days before it starts to dry up. An oil base formula has about…[Read more]

I’m a printer who just relocated from a shared studio in Asheville to FL. I prefer to print from handset type, but my personal collection limited to only a few drawers. I’m very interested! I just sent you a friend request with a message. Please let me know if it’s still available. My sister lives in DC and I own a flatbed truck, so I could easily…[Read more]

I HATE the heavy weight Katz.. have not tried the medium weight yet, but plan on it.Other people have recommended Neena’s blotter paper (you will have to cut it down and die-cut it) I’ve heard it’s beautiful, but much more labor intensive and expensive. I have not tried it yet, but am thinking about it…I guess you get what you pay for.

Ashley Leath replied to the topic Trucks Rolling, But Not The Rollers in the forum Press Troubleshooting, Tips, and Help 12 years, 9 months ago
Update:We seemed to have solved our issue, so I thought I’d respond in case someone else needs this info down the line.To give our rollers some traction with the trucks (so that they’d roll together instead of just the trucks rolling and not the rollers), we did a trick we found on Briar: We took a piece of sewing thread and looped it around the…[Read more]

I see Crane now offers Ecru in #220The savoy papers and others mentioned are really nice too. Thanks for the suggestions.FYI ecru has a lot of yellow in it so maybe ivory is a good way to describe the color?

Hi Megan,I’m by no means an expert, but I’m currently having similar issues with my new-to-me Kelsey Victor. I’ve been scouring Briar Press’ forum to learn more. I’m not sure if your C&P works exactly like my Victor, but can you adjust the platen to make sure it’s level? Made sure that your rollers are type high in all four corners?Ashley

This project is for a person in Hong Kong. White is a color that symbolizes death in their culture, so that is why the ecru color paper is desired.

India Johnson replied to the topic Need Paper Source Recommendations in the forum Supplies and Sources 12 years, 9 months ago
I like Jack Richeson recycled watercolor paper. It’s one of the few recycled papers I like to print on. It’s fairly heavy, and I usually print it damp. It’s also an economical choice — I get it at a dollar per 22×30″ sheet. Another nice thing about the paper is that, unlike many watercolor papers, there isn’t a deckle.

It is for wedding invitations. The bride wants deep impression. Does’t matter if it is from tree or cotton fiber. She would like thick paper. I am thinking about the lettra but it only comes in #110 for the ecru. Has anyone tried duplexing lettra with a deep impression? Did the “deboss” hold up? Any paper less expensive than lettra? Thanks for your help.
