I printed some wedding invites on Savoy once, and it was alright. Similar in cottony-softness to Lettra, so if you’re looking for something different, Savoy probably isn’t the way to go.

Thanks! Have you ever tried Reich SAVOY? I have some samples of that, and it seems really nice.

@lauragardner Can’t wait to see the photos! That’s great that Paul could come out and take a look.
I work at Bose, and things have been crazy busy getting ready for the holiday sales season. I spend time in my shop when I can, but I am not able to be down there as much as I would like. But need the job to support this hobby 🙂
God luck with the press! -

I second the French Paper recommendation — they have great colors to choose from, which is nice if your client’s after something beyond white. All of the French papers are smoother than Lettra and have a hard finish.Mohawk makes several beautiful 110 lb. papers — Superfine is a favorite for clients who want something smoother than Lettra; the…[Read more]

@jessicajones Hi Jessica,
Yes–just we moved it 1.5 weeks ago and Paul Moxon came last Sat to get it oiled and up and running. We have one more part to fix: the tip/print pedal doesn’t work so we have to make a round about Rube Goldberg-ish handle that makes the change. I’ll email a photo.
How are you doing? Remind me–you have a day job too…[Read more] -

I always use French paper (http://www.frenchpaper.com). Aside from the company being amazing, their Muscletone paper is super sturdy and prints beautifully. My personal business cards (in my profile picture) are on Muscletone (140#C), but I’m currently printing some save the dates on their Construction line and it’s also great, and a little lighter.…[Read more]

oh interesting! Chalk! Hm… I’m going to try that.Yes, sometimes ink/ink wash can get on the rails as I’m cleaning up so it could be skidding from that. Thank you for the tip!

Hi There,It could be that your rollers are skidding across the rails. This has happened to me, and the solution was rather easy! Apply chalk on your rails. I take a stick of chalk and run it across my rails. Electrical tape can cause a slick surface, especially if both your rails and trucks are taped up…Best of luck to you! Janet

Hi Dee,Thanks!I just recently checked all four corners of the press and adjusted accordingly. The impression is even, it’s just that the rollers are not inking up the plate in certain areas. I think I’ll re-tape my rails and trucks to “freshen” it up today and see if that can make a difference. Thank you for helping to problem solve this with m…[Read more]

Dee replied to the topic Ink bleeding slightly… how to ensure a crisp print? in the forum Press Troubleshooting, Tips, and Help 13 years, 7 months ago
At a quick glance, this looks like an over inking issue. Living in a humid climate is actually a good thing for printing. It opens the paper in a way that actually gives a nice pillowy impression.I would try taking a bit of ink off and try that first. Good luck!xo, Dee

I was having the same issue and it sounds like you may need to check to be absolutely sure that your platen is perfectly even/parallel to the chase (as a whole). Take the time to test all four corners. Take similar plates, put them in each corner and you will see where you need to adjust. Make sure to have someone there to help you and be…[Read more]

Angela R. Stewart replied to the topic Press Wash Suggestions in the forum Press Troubleshooting, Tips, and Help 13 years, 7 months ago
Where do you buy your Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits? And where did you buy California wash? My press is 10×15, it would take a big container to put the rollers in the wash so I just have been using a rag and cleaning them with kerosene — will that technique not work with california wash or Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits??
