I have done some preliminary discussions with cabinet makers and have set about locating wood laminate wholesalers (they usually supply sheets to cabinet makers to cover doors etc) I he been testing various wood samples. I cant find anything in Australia that’s like the Night Owls stuff (it seems to be 2 or 3 layers of birch) the stuff i have…[Read more]

the 10×15 was definitely much easier to handle than the 12×18 during moving! Sounds like you got a great find, too. Hooray for bonuses!Don’t clean it too much. The dirt and grease on a press actually helps protect it a little. If you do decide to clean it really well and find any bare metal where it shouldn’t be, make sure to paint that spo…[Read more]

Well, we went for it! It turned out the press was actually a 10×15 instead of a 12×18 once we got the serial number, so it was, uh, a little bit lighter than expected (you know, 1500+ lbs instead of 2500+ lbs)! However, it did come with a bonus Kluge automatic feeder system, which I hope to remove during the clean up process. It was an adventure…[Read more]

I love them too. They take a little getting used to so don’t despair after first couple of days. They can replece mouse all together regardless of application.

I have an Intuos 4 (not the newest model) and I still love it. It works seamlessly with both Photoshop and Illustrator. I really love the freedom it especially gives you in Illustrator when it comes to making lines just the way you want them. I found this particular tutorial very helpful for learning to create custom line art with my Wacom in…[Read more]

Thanks for the extra info, Kelly! It makes so much more sense to me now, knowing that the line is called a deadline, not the bar!

In case anyone else has been wondering, I just found out from Paul Moxon (of the amazing Vanderblog) that it’s called a ‘head dead bar’.

@karenaellender Hello Ladies!! We so enjoyed the convention. You did a great job. Let’s do it again.
We need some help!! In the middle of a wedding, our press yoke broke!! We are sick. We’ve only had this press a year. Would you have any leads or ideas to help us. It’s the C & P 6.5 x 10 pilot. Yoke part # 205. Any help would be so appreciated.

Are you talking about the “spacer” bar at the head of the bed? The one that prevents you from smashing your form with the grippers? If so, I’m not sure what that’s called. The bar at the end of the bed (that makes a fourth “side” of the bed) is a lockup bar if it’s spring loaded, or a deadbar if it’s one that’s dropped in place (and doesn’t e…[Read more]

Wow!! I’m afraid to read that out loud to the hubbs right now. Hahaha. That’s really sobering. Thanks for the true story! I don’t think we’ll be putting it into a truck bed, but definitely figuring out what to tow it with in a flatbed trailer. Although, after what you wrote, maybe an enclosed moving truck (14′) would be a better idea, though I d…[Read more]

Definitely remove the motor first. Close the bed and tie it shut so the center of gravity is over the press feet. With a 12×18, you need to have a 36″ doorway at least and you still may have to take off both the flywheel (on the left side) and the gear (on the right side). For my 10×15 that meant removing the entire crankshaft. For the 12x…[Read more]

Oh boy! Well, I’m waiting on the serial # because by the photos, I’m not sure I’m convinced it’s a 12×18. It may end up being a 10×15. Either way, it will be difficult to move. I’ve read that I should disconnect the motor and lock the plates down (possibly before removing the flywheel) to make sure it’s easier to move, has a good center of g…[Read more]
