Cindi Pedersen replied to the topic Cleaning Rubber Based Ink off Press, Or "How I Wanted to Quit Printing Before I Even Started" in the forum Design Side 14 years ago
If you have too much ink on your press one of the tricks to remove ink is too put a piece of paper on the disc and run the roller over it. I use this technique at the end of a run to get as much ink off as possible before cleaning to minimize chemicals. I use paper from the recycle bin at work which once the ink has dried it can still be r…[Read more]

How about Judith’s story about her niece, who was b-r-o-k-e? Or Cat Realce’s moving presentation about women in printing? Not a dry eye in the room!

My favorite part is the same…meeting such a great group of people and being completely inspired! I don’t know that I’ve ever gotten to geek out so much over letterpress and it was amazing!

@jessicacwhite Thank you Jessica.
I have had my Adana 8×5 for around 2 months now and am loving it.
I have been getting some great results since renewing the rollers but I do have a couple of questions if anyone can help. I have been having trouble getting a good impression (deboss) from the press, so any advice welcome. I have been using…[Read more] -

I’m new here, but I’m interested. So what is the project going to be? Postcard coasters? How does the swap work? I definitely want to know the details and the whole process. 🙂 How exciting!

Will someone be filming this to put up online? This seems like this information would be a great topic to cover for the greater good on the LOLP website since there are a lot of tabletop press owners, myself included, that wont be able to attend to the conference.

I have no personal experience with this as I am currently awaiting my “starter kit” for my new little 3×5 Kelsey. But I ran across these things called roller bearers which sound like they might be just the thing you need for your ink coverage problems based on your description. I found them at http://excelsiorpress.org/reference/presswork/smallpres…[Read more]

Val,I looked at the springs, and aside from some grease, they look fine to me. No gunk at all. But thank you so much for the suggestion! Perhaps I’ll see you in Asheville and we can figure it out! Samantha

Ah, I did that once. Cleaned the rollers, forgot the disc. It’s okay! We’re human. Your press forgives you. I clean the rollers and disc on my Pilot with Crisco, believe it or not. Get a big hunk of it (1/4 cup?) and rub it into the ink with a cloth until it loosens up. It’s going to take a while, but it should work. Once the ink is loosened,…[Read more]
