Julie Gibb replied to the topic Edge Painting? in the forum Supplies and Sources 14 years, 1 month ago
In our studio we’ve used artist’s quality tempera out of the tube to colour the edges. It’s a bit like watercolour but opaque. We’ve have varying degrees of success, nothing I’d like to post here. We’ve never tried it on an actual job, the fear of printing an entire job and then messing it up with bad edge painting is a bit daunting. However we’re…[Read more]

Judith Berliner replied to the topic Quick Books? Or how doyou handle your Billing? in the forum Business Matters 14 years, 1 month ago
I use quick books and I love it. I only use it for billing and sending out paid notices. I have an accountant who pays the bills….. I do this instead of a housekeeper. I would much rather vacumn than pay bills.

I’ve used an app called Billings for my previous freelance work and intend to continue to use it for my letterpress work. http://www.marketcircle.com/billings/

Thanks, Kathryn! That SoySolv looks great, so much easier to use probably, since it is in a spray bottle. I found I was wasting so much of the mineral spirits by pouring it over the rollers. (On that note, check out the site that Courtney put up, and look at the Rubbermaid container trick that printer uses). And I guess I’ll just have to get u…[Read more]

Hey Samantha,I don’t have a pilot but an 8×12 C&P. I take the rollers off first when cleaning up, one at a time, clean one then go to the next one. (not sure if it is the same on a pilot). Also I used to use mineral spirits or roller wash but now only use Soy-Solv (found at Daniel Smith online) It cleans amazingly and I don’t mind it on my hands…[Read more]

Thanks to both of you wonderful ladies! Courtney – That site is wonderful! I LOVE her solution using the Rubbermaid box! I have a bunch of those in my house already! Perfect. Jen – I will definitely try the vegetable oil trick you mentioned. Also, where do you get Eco wash and California wash? I saw it on one website, (NAGraphics) but it just l…[Read more]

Hi Samantha,I hear you, it’s hard to feel at all graceful when dealing with gremlin ink spots, they multiply fast! I’ve learned some good pointers to drop a little veggie oil (not too much, just about a couple tsp’s worth) on the top of the disc and before it drips down, run the press several trips, enough to spread the oil around and let the ink…[Read more]

Hi Samantha,I’m new too, and this post on the Snap+Tumble blog is pretty helpful:http://snapandtumble.blogspot.com/2009/11/my-solution-to-cleaning-rollers.html(Also, she has a tag in her word cloud called “Tips and Hints” which I found really helpful!) Good luck and don’t get discouraged! Courtney

Also, if you would all like a little laugh, I JUST found out that the disc is removable. That will certainly make things a tad easier…Here’s to being a beginner!

Thanks for your note Diana! I actually have a 3×5 Kelsey that is my traveling press and is a workhorse, to say the least! I am in Colorado, where are you? I would love to see photos and know how much you would sell it for, but no rush. My main press in a Golding Map Press, so I know what a beauty your Pearl must be!!! Enjoy your day, Denise

Denise, Did you ever get a small demo press? The very first press I purchased was an Adana HS2. It looks like it has a 3×5 built in chase. I purchased new rollers and even found an instruction manual on Ebay for the press. I never used it thoug, ended up getting my pearl. If you’re still interested I can pull her out of the box and send you s…[Read more]

Hello, I have a Golding Pearl #11 Improved and when I purchased it in 2008 it cost me 1200. She was press ready so I didn’t need to purchase anything except ink. Hope this helps! Take Care,Diana

@thedarkstamper Dark Stamper,
I, too, am in Dallas, having jumped head first into a C&P Pilot after taking local classes. My Pilot has a Boxcar base, which is altogether new to me. Would appreciate any tips!
