I’ve just printed a new set of stationary on Neenah’s Classic Laid, and I’m in love! (good thing, because I have a ton of this paper now). I used Recycled Natural White 80C, 216 gsm, which is 100% post-consumer content and processed without chlorine. It prints and folds beautifully, and feels so nice in my hands. The Classic Laid does have a…[Read more]

@allisonbozeman That’s so funny… we are polar opposites: me from Colorado living in East TN, you from East TN living in Colorado. Would have loved to had coffee or something.

I love Arch paper and I don’t think it’s too soft for a folded card, it is so yummy b/c it feels like your favorite t-shirt. I’m going to order some of the Holyoke soon too, glad to hear folks like it.Lettra can’t be beat on price for a nice cotton sheet, but it’s certainly not perfect. My secret for scoring, may not be a good practice, but it…[Read more]

I do something similar to Kelly. I have an initial “research and development” or “prototype” fee that is hourly. There is usually a little back and forth with the client about how many hours we can agree on due to the complexity of the project. Then, a per piece cost is determined and production commences.best wishes -Allison

I haven’t found a really satisfactory way to do this, but I definitely price out materials, and then usually do a substantial first book charge (say $200 for something really complicated, or with lots of gluing + sewing) then step it down for each book thereafter (say $75) since you’ve already worked out the kinks.Good luck!Kelly

Maia, I’d heard the same thing, that Fritz has been sick and is recovering. Most people I know love Fritz and think very highly of him. I guess my problems with the roller order was with the person he’d hired to help out, who apparently wasn’t helping out very well. Hopefully they have things sorted out there and that Fritz is back at the wheel.I…[Read more]

@tamara-freshheifersletterpress Hello Tamara, I hadn’t checked in on LOL for a while and just caught your thread on the National Stationery Show. I would love to take advantage of this opportunity! I know there are a number of people ahead of me on this, but if you do end up having a spot available I would be happy to commit to it. I just did the…[Read more]

I just talked to Fritz at NA Graphics a little while ago and I think the problem was that he was sick for a while and had others who were less attentive dealing with his business while he was gone. He’s an older guy, so my inclination was to cut him slack on this (I was waiting on an order too). Always before this my stuff has arrived in decent…[Read more]

The Arch paper is really beautiful but is VERY soft. I don’t think it would make a great folded card.I use Lettra for some of my cards and I got fed up with dealing with the scoring. I actually buy now from Astro Converters http://www.astropaper.com/ I have them cut it down to 4Bar and A2 sizes and have them score them as well. They come in nice…[Read more]

Tamara from Fresh Heifers has been working on all the details for our possible group booth and will be posting shortly. She started another thread, so if you are interested, go there from now on. You can still either contact me or Tamara for more info.

Hi Kelly,I think this is such a great idea. I’d like to participate in a group booth for the stationary show, not just because it’s too expensive for me to do it alone, but I don’t have nearly enough stationary to have my own booth. Instead of limiting the number to 5, can we open it up to more (or unlimited) so printers like me with a small…[Read more]

Hi everyone!I had the same scoring issue on a tri-fold wedding invite I did last year on Lettra. The paper does have a grain direction, but all the research I did on Briar Press said that people have tried it in every direction and the same splitting happens regardless of how it’s scored. I called around to some others printers here in the…[Read more]

Paper Schmaper replied to the topic Edge Painting? in the forum Supplies and Sources 15 years, 9 months ago
I’ve been giving this a few tries on Crane’s 600 gsm lettra. I want to have red edges for my cards and wanted to do it by myself instead of sending it out. So far, I’ve tried a few things – acrylic paint seems to work best, but I still sometimes get a little fiber tearing. I only let it sit for about 1 minute then I pull them apart to dry entirely…[Read more]

actually, that is why i was asking…. i was thinking a Ladies of Letterpress booth could be a big draw. If there were 5 or so gals in there with a pretty large booth, it could be much more cost effective. I think, given the “popularity” of letterpress it might be enticing for buyers to find a ‘one stop shop’. we could then send out joint…[Read more]

I would be very interested in this idea. I exhibited in 2008 and it was great, but definitely an undertaking for a single lady {of letterpress} Pooling resources and collective talent sounds like a win-win to me too.
