I don’t have a drip pan either but bought a roll of linoleum from Home Depot and taped that down under the press- cleans up easily and looks nice too! It’s a less permanent solution than sealing the floor.-v-

Thank you for the visual! It’s really great to see. I do not have that rod unfortunately. Maybe I can re-create it. Michael, thanks for the step-by-step. It’s how I am doing it as well but it takes a bit more effort. Or maybe I’m not as strong! 🙂

Hmmm… When I change rollers, I do the following: Pull chase and run rollers to halfway down the chase area–this is where the springs have the least tension. Remove the single roller first, otherwise it gets in the way later. Working at the right side roller saddle/bracket, put my thumb at the top corner of the saddle and lever out t…[Read more]

It has, what I am assuming, a few oil holes… where would the hole for the pin be located?

@abigailsteinem Hi, Abigail! Thanks for the add. I just can’t stop looking at your Jane Austen books… they are incredible!
Just an FYI: I am a horrible LOLPer. I usually only log in when I think of something I need to research/ask, or when I have a spare moment (which, with a studio and a 10 month old, is almost never). 🙂
Have a great w…[Read more] -

Hi Thanks! I got some feedback on twitter and it worked. It’s all about InDesign, yes! I had made the files in AI and then just copied and pasted into InDesign, then exported to pdf. The file went down to 2mb which is perfect.Thanks for your response!kathryn

Im really not sure if you can other than by making the pics smaller in export settings as you mentioned… (in quality not size..)Are the pics .jpg when you place them into the document? for example if you use In design to build the document, the original linked images should be saved as the same physical size in Photoshop that they appear in the…[Read more]

@yokomegro Hi Yoko,
I’m going to Taiwan in about two weeks to visit my family, and I’d like to visit a letterpress shop while I’m there. Do you know of anyone printing there?
Thanks!

Nancy, your pictures are great! Love the cabinets! I’ll only have shelves :0( A funny thing happened after looking at your pictures…I went back and on graph paper put everything in place with its perspective size. Within 5 minutes I announced that we didn’t have enough room and we are adding additional space…before we ever started. Strangely…[Read more]

Jessica, thank you for replying. For all the reasons that you all have mentioned I had decided to go with a deep relief boxcar base. My only problem is seeing if I can make embossing plates with the thicker pp that the deep relief requires. Budgetary restraints will only allow one base, at the time, and not both. Can the KF 95 be used on a deep…[Read more]

In school, we learned by using steel-backed plates on magnetic bases. A resident artist came in one day with her aluminum base which she let me borrow, I made a few non-steel backed plates, and I was hooked. Because they’re clear, I find them a lot easier to place on the base, or to register them to a print. I also think they’re easier to place…[Read more]

Right, with the rollers over the disk. I don’t thing you’ll bend the cores–there ought to be enough spring in the springs so that they’ll come out far enough. If you need to, you can push the saddle up with your hand to get the second roller in. If you push straight up–that is, in a straight line (the line the spring would make if it shot out!),…[Read more]

Yes I think 2 point is smallest line and font sizes shouldn’t be too small either (I think about 9? but cant remember)Illustrator has an awesome trace tool (converts raster to vector), and its as easy as ‘placing’ (file/place) the image you wish to trace in an new document click on the ‘live trace’ button (which appears in the small menu palate…[Read more]

Thank you Davina for your insight. I will order the suite. I only know, barely, how to use the pen tool. I was told that a line width of 2 pts is minimum for a poly plate. Do you confirm? I would love to learn the limitations of a line drawing as processed in a plate. (i.e. line width, adequate space between lines (bridge?), and the best file…[Read more]

Thanks!So you let the rollers lay over the ink disc? I’m afraid to do that because there’s so much tension that I don’t want to bend the cores. I have been doing your method of order though. There also doesn’t seem to be much room when I pivot the top saddle to get the second roller in. That’s the hardest one! :)Thanks so much for your help though!
