I’m sure this has been discussed before but, do you send your paper off to be duplexed? And where?thanks!

Camille Robin replied to the topic Offset printing 1 Side with Letterpress On Other in the forum Job Advice 15 years ago
Why don’t you laminate/duplex the color your client wants?

I’ve had offset work done on lettra, but it’s rough. I think it’s actually pretty tough on the equipment–the last job I did, I received a stern warning that there would be upcharges on my next order. Good luck!

Hi Katie,I’ve never been able to get my local offset printer to print over 100# paper. They won’t touch Lettra, too cottony/textured and heavy they say.I’d love to hear if anyone has had luck with this.bestkathryn

I would say a color-correct lamp is an often-overlooked must have; the florescent/incandescent combination in the lamp approximates daylight, so you can match colors to PMS swatches even in low-light or nighttime conditions. I got a vintage one on eBay for about $40!

I agree–looks like ink squeezing up over the edges of the impression. So what they said: too much packing, or too much ink, or rollers too low.

yep, maybe over inking or the rollers may not be quite at correct roller height.

Hi Kathryn,Great advice thank you, do you have a photo of your handmade paper pins. i have to admit the first time I tried a 2 color job, I hit a metal pin and it had to go into the recycle bin. Thanks for you time,Ondine

Yes, they love to design that way huh? I also have a C&P 8×12, and I have found the only way for full bleed is to print on oversize as you mentioned and cutting after. Or talking them out of a full bleed. 😉 If it’s not a solid bleed and prints to the edge of 3 sides (like an image of some sort), I use handmade registration paper “pins” taped at…[Read more]

@elsbethknott Hello Elizabeth,
Feel free to ask me any questions you have about the Adana presses. I’m always willing to help out. 🙂 -

It would be worth asking the post office for sure. If anything I will just say “first class stamp”. Something to think about, ladies, if you live in a tourist-y area to try and sell these, too!

Camille Robin replied to the topic Letterpress swap in the forum Show Time 15 years ago
When I travel, I like to buy postcards. Most tourists shops sell the postcards but no stamps. I wonder if the “forever” stamps might work? Just tossing around ideas.

Karen Dufour replied to the topic Letterpress swap in the forum Show Time 15 years ago
Thank you! I did have that thought of just adding “extra postage required.” After all, who carries around postcard stamps usually? 🙂

Camille Robin replied to the topic Letterpress swap in the forum Show Time 15 years ago
My local post office said .016 and no larger than 6×4-1/4 to get the post card rate. Karen you may want to print on two different stocks, one for your local sales and one for the swap. Or maybe print on the back extra postage needed.

@papercabaret Yes! How can I forget, not many people show up from the Islands. Berwyn also says Hello, baby is doing well (he ‘helps’ with our press and binding all the time, by the time he is 3 years old he will know it all- like his daddy). We hope to one day make it down to you! But for now, I guess Ladies of Letterpress will have to do.

If the postal service will mail a coconut or a beach ball I can’t imagine that they care just how thick a postcard is.As long as the proper postage is atatched I believe they will mail just about anything. So maybe it has to be 16mil to qualify for postcard postage.

Jessica, what a beautiful press!Burt, please take Jessica’s advice and sign your wife up for a class before you buy a press. Where I live, the Minnesota Center for Book Arts has many wonderful classes. I’m sure there is something similar near you. You didn’t say which anniversary… the 6th is traditionally iron. I don’t know of any woman that…[Read more]

Yes, I agree with Camille, that the Adana is a good choice, but I also love my “little black iron beast”, a Kelsey 5×8. I got it used for $300, and it didn’t take long to clean up and get into good working shape. I cleaned it up, oiled it, and got new rollers, and it works beautifully.
But before you buy her a press, you might want to buy her a…[Read more]
