First – trim your stacks of paper perfectly- no draw, no tiny ridges- it has to be perfect.Use an Airbrush with Acrylic paint, Airbrush Medium, Matt medium and water- I’ve been painting with acrylics for over 30 years and it took a me some time to learn how to adjust the colors to match PMS colors. Use a binding clamp to hold 1 – 2 inches of…[Read more]

Jennifer Brown replied to the topic Ladies – please tell me about your Pearl #3 in the forum Supplies and Sources 15 years, 2 months ago
Thank you, ladies, for your replies. I still think the Pearl #3 is for me. Unfortunately I can’t get a Pearl with a throwoff ( heavier) into my basement without spending a LOT of money. So, the lighter Pearl it may have to be. I can hardly wait to get my hands on one. I have a 9 month old, though… and I know I won’t have a lot of time, but … I…[Read more]

I have a newer pearl. It is a 7X11 and has a throw off. (It is very pretty)I like how it feels petite only 730 lbs. , and it is upstairs in my studio, but it’s a treadle and I can get a nice deep impression if that’s what I’m after.

Gail Watson replied to the topic Ladies – please tell me about your Pearl #3 in the forum Supplies and Sources 15 years, 2 months ago
The Pearl is a classic press perfect for small image areas. It’s a very fast press – much faster than C&P’s but has no throw-out lever which I miss. I print on a 10 x 15 C&P when I have a large image that needs a deep impression but the Pearl is great for small areas and it’s so beautiful that it’s a real pleasure to print on!

Jessica C. White replied to the topic 3" thick printed band of color – linoleum block?? in the forum Job Advice 15 years, 2 months ago
You can do this with a linoleum block. Get a block that’s already mounted on a wood base (it’s actually particle-board), then you’ll need one piece of museum board to lift it to type-high (I think 2-ply is enough). The golden color is supposed to be easier to carve than ‘battleship gray’, but I’m not sure if this comes pre-mounted.Linoleum tends…[Read more]

@sueglobensky Everyone has said so many good things about the course, I can hardly wait!!
I still have to find a quote/poem of substantial length, however…that’ll keep me busy until then 🙂
Then, when I get my press, I’ll wish I had more time 🙂

@christinegittings Hi Christine, actually, we’re in Oakville, so a bit closer than Hamilton and we have a C&P Pilot which is closer in style to your Adana. We were thinking our workshops would be about 4 hours and cost $175. But since you’d be our test subject, we’d be happy to charge you only $100. We’d supply the paper. Does this interest you?…[Read more]

@margotcudmore I’m near Bathurst and Lawrence. I’m definitely up for taking some classes. Like I said I plan on signing up for a Vandercook Workshop that’s in Hamilton , so if you’re in T.O I can make it!

I have both of those studios on my friends list now, and may have to take courses from them, too!
I am only getting an Adana 3×5 and the current owner has struggled to get it to print properly, too – he will work on it with me when I go to buy it. No, it’s not from Don – I found it through a connection of…[Read more] -
