Paperwheel replied to the topic Help! C&P motor issues, press not turning in the forum Press Troubleshooting, Tips, and Help 15 years, 6 months ago
Hi! Thanks for the response…I am still having trouble with this. Spent all day trying to trouble shoot. I am belt-driven. I took the whole thing apart today, and the part that seems to be a problem is that the belt is loose–not tight around the motor and the wheel. Not sure how to get the slac out of it. Tried EVERYTHING!!

Any chance my C&P may be acting up because it is trying to operate in 40 degree farenheit conditions?

Hi,I’m not sure what kind of press you use but my good ole Platen Press handbook, says to use SAE 30. That’s what I use on my C&P.best,Kathryn

Hello,Are you belt driven or direct drive? Either way, check all the parts that connect. My presses are direct drive, and if there’s so much as a piece of masking tape on the flywheel, it’ll throw off the whole operation and it won’t spin. There’s also a chance that the brushes on the motor are worn and aren’t touching the copper wheel inside the…[Read more]

Jen Starshaped replied to the topic Where to get thick chipboard? in the forum Supplies and Sources 15 years, 6 months ago
Hello,Back in the day, we used to get this kind of stuff from: http://www.beveridgepaper.com/We used it for cd packaging, business cards and the like, as it’s thick like chipboard and comes in colors, though I’m not sure it would be great for anything that you might want to be archival. You could probably ask them about it and see what they say,…[Read more]

I got a “bundle” from a local offset printer down the street from me. They bought it from their supplier which is Mac Papers around here. Don’t know of a cranberry color, just the kraft and gray. The thick stuff (kraft brown) I got is 22pt. Not sure this helps since it isn’t the color you are looking for.best, kathryn

I have contacted them all! They do have grippers, just an unusual way of paper feeding, such as the angled feed board …”To feed the paper you return the cylinder to the left side (as you are facing the press) and carefully drop the sheet onto the little toothed ledge near the cylinder. Crank the press (while the lever is on print) and at the ink…[Read more]

You’re right–Strathmore is a part of Mohawk. I’ve used both, and I don’t think there’s much of a difference once they’re printed. Strathmore writing has at least 25% cotton content, so is pricier but also prettier.

Mohawk makes a stickyback paper in the Superfine line, and I think Neenah has one, too.
