You got it, Sara! Send me an email (andrubemis@gmail.com) or text (269) 767-8235, and let me know when you’d like to pick up the press. I check the phone and computer a couple times a day, so don’t worry if you don’t hear back immediately.

If that falls through, I am teaching at a local arts center and we would be more than interested. We have no beginner presses right now!

I know this is a older post but a interesting story true with most business and difference between most modern printers and letterpress printers. I have found people of letterpress are a nicer, easer going more self reliant group of hard workers, not only here but all over the world thanks to the language changing technology and the Internet. I d…[Read more]

Hi, Monica, try Vbelt Supply:The link above takes you to a page that has belts 1.25″ wide and over 100″ length. I forget, I think my 8×12 uses a 120″ belt for the flywheel. If you need to do any calculation for belt length vs press speed, I treated this some time back on my blog. gary // Paper Wren Presshttp://www.paperwrenpress.comhttp://www.paperwren.blogspot.com

I use a tractor fan belt for mine. But mine takes a V belt, obtainable at auto supply stores.

Jessica – yes, I think that studio artist might be a good way to word it. I also agree that having somewhere to refer them is always helpful. My husband always laughs about my conversations. No matter how the conversation starts, it always seems to end with me talking about art or printing. I do love chatting about it and most people do seem to…[Read more]

I usually tell people that I’m an artist, or “studio artist” to make it sound more official, especially here in Asheville where almost everyone is some type of artist. If they want to know more, I tell them that I’m a printmaker and book artist. If they still ask for more, I tell them about letterpress printing, etc., and then the conversation…[Read more]

I struggle with this as well. I am just getting back into letterpress after a year’s break (had to let go of my in-home print shop to move), but during that time I digitally printed my artwork. Either way, I don’t consider myself a commercial printer either.Has anyone came up with a name for what we do? Sometimes I say I am an artsy printer or a…[Read more]
