Camille Robin replied to the topic Am I the only one who thinks foil is cheesy? in the forum Design Side 9 years, 1 month ago
Bryan,Congratulations on your foil boss and thermo base! Not many people can say they made an old one work and make a heated base too. What press did you hook this up to?I respectively disagree that foil is “gaudy and cheap looking”. Can you letterpress print matte white and get the same opaque coverage in one pass on colored paper? How about…[Read more]

You can use regular type, but it does wear the face down. I use ludlow or linotype and cast a few slugs to change them out when they get worn, and save my foundry type for printing. You can get dies made, they just can’t be mounted to wood…you need solid metal. They are really fun and can turn out nice work as you can see from Renata’s link. You…[Read more]

The color of the paper is shining through. Is there transparent white ink in the formula? You should probably use Van Son Tough Tex, it can be purchased at http://www.bsink.com/

Hi Bunny,There should be plenty of riggers near you. What press are you moving? Can you lag bolt it to solid 4×4? Can you bolt it to a heavy duty skid? If so, you could build a crate around it, making sure to brace it good. Remove as many parts as you can and box those separately. Shipping is usually around $1.00 per pound. Any freight company can…[Read more]

I see Crane now offers Ecru in #220The savoy papers and others mentioned are really nice too. Thanks for the suggestions.FYI ecru has a lot of yellow in it so maybe ivory is a good way to describe the color?

This project is for a person in Hong Kong. White is a color that symbolizes death in their culture, so that is why the ecru color paper is desired.

Camille Robin replied to the topic Ecru in the forum Press Troubleshooting, Tips, and Help 12 years, 2 months ago
It is for wedding invitations. The bride wants deep impression. Does’t matter if it is from tree or cotton fiber. She would like thick paper. I am thinking about the lettra but it only comes in #110 for the ecru. Has anyone tried duplexing lettra with a deep impression? Did the “deboss” hold up? Any paper less expensive than lettra? Thanks for your help.

I’m still living/printing in the caveman days using handset type and traditional dies, but I can print with PP, maybe one of the other Ladies has the base and is already set up to print that way.
