I use a soap bar from Soap Works, called Pumice. Works well and smells nice too!

Yeah. I got around to Letterpresspaper.com and purchased a bunch of pre-folded A2 cards and they were nicely scored and cut. I am very pleased with them and will prob order again.

We’ve also bought from http://www.letterpresspaper.com before and you can get the A2’s from them. Watch from promo codes when you do your order and you can get a bit of a price break.

@davidlkent Hmm, I think it was actually one of the laddies that recommended it to us, but I can’t quite remember who it was now…

@jessicacwhite Thanks, Jessica…I wish I had made the conference…just found out about the Ladies the day before the conference!
Wish there was a video/audio of the keynote…maybe next year?
Good luck to you!

@jessicacwhite Thanks for your reply, Jessica. What I wanted to know was whether you or Kseniya came up with the name “Laddies”. I am preparing a piece for circulation in the APA bundle, crediting Kseniya for coining that term. I hope that is right.
Best,

postscript: if you want to talk about environmentally friendly adhesives let me know. 3M has some that are bad (Super 77) and others are not as bad. I always want to learn more. Thanks!

Hi Erika,I’m sure there is someone out there who has a simpler and more informative answer for you. But here’s my 2 cents. I’ve found it’s challenging to find good pre-made duplex stocks. I usually end up making it myself to get exactly what we want. Business cards are great because they’re small and you don’t have to do to much handwork. I’ve…[Read more]

@davidlkent Hi David, LoLP was entirely a joint project from the beginning. Kseniya and I met in 2008 and started this group together, and we continue to work on it together. Glad to have you (and many other laddies) join in.

Annika Buxman replied to the topic Proofs? in the forum Business Matters 12 years ago
I often get asked for letterpress proofs and I tell them it costs $200 to mix the ink, set up the press, set up the plate, pull a print, clean the press, etc… (the more tasks I list the more they get that it’s a lot of work.) Occasionally someone does it, but usually I just overload them with pre-printed samples of things that are similar to…[Read more]

A lot would depend on your composition imposition process. If you are running polymer and working with a digital front end, then digital proofs should be more than sufficient. However, on a high end job, or using a “new” brand of paper/ink/plate, proofs would be valuable in evaluating results in house, or to spec with customers. If you ou…[Read more]

Amelia Fontanel replied to the topic C & P 6.5 x 10 Pilot, trucks won't roll on rails in the forum Press Troubleshooting, Tips, and Help 12 years ago
Hello,Do you have metal trucks or rubber expansion trucks? If metal, you might be right and they may not be the right size-or-do they have a flat, worn spot? I worry if you put too much tape on the bearer rails because then you are elevating the entire roller action which will cause inking problems on the letterpress form.I like the versatility of…[Read more]

Hi David! You are too generous to offer to pay for this! Thank you for thinking of us and being such a great friend! It is nice to know there are roving press mechanics out there and we would love to meet these guys anyway! Fortunately Mark Barbour’s press mechanic diagnosed the problem, he thought the trucks must be rubbing against the roller…[Read more]

Hi Anne, I think I may have a solution to that inoperative C&P. Dave & Beth Seat are a couple of very savvy letterpress printers and equipment machinists (who travel around the US continuously), most of whose work involves troubleshooting linotypes and presses including C&P/Pilots. I have just contacted them; they are now working in Portland,…[Read more]
