That’s what I use for white paper when they want 600gsm. I -LOVE- it!But this time the client wants a black paper.

Crane Lettra. Absolutely THE finest high-gsm paper available. It is LUSH to say the least. But the customer better be willing to pay!! LOL 🙂 It is available in 220 lb 600gsm duplexed cover. IMO the finest letterpress paper available. And at $75 for 50 sheets it better be! :)Jessica @ Rolling Frog Press

I found Museum Board or Mountain Board is about the right thickness. I have heard of duplexing, does it cost a lot? I’ve always wondered about duplexing two different colors.

You’ll need to have the paper duplexed, as you won’t find anything this thick. You can just print both sides on the 300, and then find someone to duplex it (our offset friends here in Chicago are capable so you can probably find someone close to you).Hope that helps,Jen @ Starshaped Press

You could make a shadow box with the plates and an original printed wedding suite as a keepsake and heirloom for the bride and groom. You could charge something for your time, effort, and materials for the boxed set.Â

From working with dyes and pigments I know that most reds/magentas are very fugitive…they’ll fade well before any other colours. It also makes a difference what quality and density of pigment is used in the ink/dye. I use Van Son rubber based as well and I get direct sunlight into my studio all afternoon and stuff I’ve printed that has any red…[Read more]

I should mention that the print on my wall was printed (I think) with Van Son rubber-based ink. It was a gift from a friend. Other prints hanging in the same area seem like they haven’t faded, at least not as much, but I don’t have ‘controls’ to compare them to. I’m tempted to do some tests as well – let’s compare our results!

From a “traditional” letterpress point of view, so much depends on what you want to focus on. Â Will you be setting traditional metal type, for instance? Â If so, a platen press and that poco proofer would be ideal. Â Will you be making posters or broadsides? Â Cylinder presses, a Challenge Proofer, a Vandercook, wood type, etc., would be ideal. Â We…[Read more]

Hi Allison (and everyone else)I have been home from the hospital for a couple of weeks now. I am a bit tired so I am taking naps whenever I can.The brain surgery was incredibly successful. I have a new haircut which is about 1/2″ long right now. Aside from that I can talk, walk, and think normally, and I have been making type. I have completed 6…[Read more]

I’d be interested to do some research on this. At my work, we do a lot of printing with inkjet and solvent printers, and especially for the solvent ink the magenta and yellow are not guaranteed to last more than a year or two outdoors before fading. I’m sure it has to do with the pigments in various inks but I had not encountered fading with…[Read more]

@chantalaudreyvonwattenwyl Hi Chantel. I have no idea where to get a Golding Pearl from. They are popular in the US but for all I know I have the only one in Australia! – I’m sure that’s not the case but there aren’t many presses at all in Australia.

Recon it depends on the design. There is a great discussion on the Golding Pearl group/forum that says that the Pearls can handle no more than 1/8 of the platen in ink. I just test pressed a design on my Pearl OS #3 that was type and line art onto 600gsm Cranes Lettra and it made an awesome pillowy deep (too deep in my opinion as it punched…[Read more]

It’s sold where most printing suplies are sold. Its purpose it’s to make the ink more “runny”, that is, less thick. But not supposed to dilute your color.
