some of the guys over at Briar Press think I should be able to use a right-sided saddle on the left as long as I have the pin facing outward. I’m going to buy a saddle I found in hopes it’s the right size. Thank you everyone for your help! Lindsey

Oh! I keep forgetting to follow-up on this! Yes, I contacted Dan Morris at The Arm in Brooklyn, where I bought my press to get some advice as to what to do about leveling once I sourced the bolt. He gave me the name of a man who makes these handy platen-leveling tools and said “ask him about the screw, you never know”. And what do you know, he…[Read more]

Do you think a machinist could fabricate one for you?

The right one on my press (standing in the operator’s position) has a little handle on it so you can push the whole saddle up to insert the other end of the roller–the left one doesn’t.

both are the same, take the right one and show to the machinist…….and tell him that you need the left one..

Haha, I wondered if that was you. I am probably going to part out a 10×15 OS C&P this summer. I’m fairly sure that most parts on the OS and the NS will interchange. Here is one picture of the left side saddle. Please contact me directly to discuss this further if you wish.

@jessicacwhite Hi Jessica,
Thanks for looking me up ; ) We really live just north of Hillsborough, so our address always throws people off. (We do get stuff for our chickens up in Hurdle Mills though…) Lucky you to live in Asheville. I love it there. My aunt lives there, out near Warren Wilson and it sounds like you teach out there? What a great…[Read more] -

@julieschmidt Hi Julie,
I just had to look up Hurdle Mills – I grew up in NC but never heard of your town! My husband is from that neighborhood, Oxford. We live in Asheville now.
Cheers,

Slightly thinned down matte medium first works great! that is the crucial step. it prevents any ink or paint from bleeding into the paper or stack.~Emilyhttp://www.scribblesketchpress.com

Hi Bev. This was really helpful. I’ve been experimenting with it and I’ve got the clamping and the airbrush but my ink is smearing off a little. I haven’t been coating it with anything afterwards. Would you suggest finishing it with matte medium? A varnish? or I’ve read wax? Am I just not letting it dry long enough (I let it dry for a few hours)?…[Read more]

UPDATE: Got the broken bit out. But now I am on the hunt for a replacement impression screw (or “bolt” as I was calling it before. It’s a learning process). I know it’s a stretch, but does anyone have any idea where I could get a new one? I contacted one person from Excelsior Press, and he didn’t know who made them anymore. Is it possible to have…[Read more]
