It is reusable- though sometimes after you remove the plate from the base the old adhesive can warp it a bit. When that happens, I find that it is just easier to pull it off and replace the adhesive.I haven’t used the metal backed plates- someone else will have to fill you in!

Thanks Colleen,I used your link and boxcar says you can reuse the film adhesive if you leave it on the plate and just put the silicon backing on for storage. Have your done that? Also, what about the steel backed plates they offer? Anybody using those? I’m just an old fashioned hot lead gal trying to learn how to use today’s technology. Thanks for…[Read more]

I use the film adhesive (roll) from Boxcar ( http://www.boxcarpress.com/photopolymer-supplies/platemaking-supplies.html ) and have never had an issue with plates moving! Spray adhesive is just a mess, and I wouldn’t recommend using double sided tape as it could cause uneven impression.

@pilarnadal Hello Pilar!
Nice to meet you 🙂
We should get together sometime. Do you know the bakery right in the middle of Ionia, Sweet Solutions? Good breakfasts there, too; yum. Maybe one morning? Let me know. . .

I have this contraption, just got it a few days ago, and let me say – it is certainly not easy to use! The finished effect, once mastered, is great for greetings cards, tags etc, but it does take a lot of trial and error to get it right.It uses regular photopolymer plates. I am also experimenting with the Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks, as the ink…[Read more]

Catherine Johnson replied to the topic clearbags-what do you think of the biodegradable bags? in the forum Supplies and Sources 15 years, 1 month ago
Have you thought about using paper bags for your cards?I know it’s no good for display, but when shipping, you could pop the card in a re-cycled paper bag that’s breathable, will protect the card and won’t shrivel in the sun!I also use a seperate set of display cards for stalls and take orders for delivery at a later date. Sell them at a slightly…[Read more]

cleanwash letterpress replied to the topic Corner Rounder in the forum Supplies and Sources 15 years, 1 month ago
I have a Lassco 50B. It has a wood base and is much sturdier than the CR20’s I have used. It works fine (not any better or worse). Nothing beats a die when it comes to corner rounding!! I am starting to build a library of rounded corner dies in standard sizes. Takes less time and is a lot easier on my carpal tunnel!

I’ve always been a fan of letterpress (a huge fan!), so when I saw the L Letterpress machine, I was very excited! I purchased it thinking I could play with it, learn more about letterpress and start a small business. I spent a lot of time online, over the last few weeks, researching letterpress and what it would take to start a small business. I…[Read more]

Jessica C. White replied to the topic mixing wood and metal type in the forum Design Side 15 years, 1 month ago
I usually print wood type and metal type separately because they print differently. They typically need different amounts of ink (the wood takes more because of the larger size), and may need different amounts of packing depending on how old and worn down the wood type is. Also, metal type usually takes more care in getting a good print – I’d set…[Read more]
