@davidlkent Hmm, I think it was actually one of the laddies that recommended it to us, but I can’t quite remember who it was now…

@davidlkent Hi David, LoLP was entirely a joint project from the beginning. Kseniya and I met in 2008 and started this group together, and we continue to work on it together. Glad to have you (and many other laddies) join in.

@minnastubina Hi Minna,
I just saw your chat. I would recommend the tabletop for certain things, but not for all types of letterpress printing. I’m not sure about the one you’re looking at, but I have one and it’s great for wood cuts, linoleum blocks, and large type. Not great for fine printing or for printing large quantities (quickly). Let me…[Read more] -

Hi Alisa,I have some trouble with this too, and and tend to veer away from iffy texts just to be on the safe side. I tend to work more with book texts, though, and I use Project Gutenberg for a guide – if it’s on their site, it’s ok to use (http://www.gutenberg.org/).Jessica

@kayhiott Hi Kay,
We’re not far from each other – I’m in Asheville, NC, and we travel south to Greenville or Atlanta pretty regularly. I’d love to stop by and say hi sometime when I’m in your neighborhood.Best,

And welcome to the (extended) neighborhood! Did you move Manifesto from Holyoke to W-S? I lived in Springfield and Easthampton, MA for a few years (2001-2004), now I’m in Asheville, NC.

Try John Barrett, Letterpress Things – http://www.letterpressthings.com/. If he doesn’t have one, he might hunt one down for you.

@craigfansler That’s great that Wake Forest Univ library got a donated press! I have a friend in W-S, in fact I’ll be there in April for her wedding 🙂
Good luck with it, and let me know if I can help.

Hi there, we don’t have a shuttle, but so far it looks like there will be plenty of drivers willing to give you a ride. We’ll try to get printers at each hotel in touch with each other to work out ride shares. If this doesn’t work out, then yes – there will be a shuttle. Have no fear, we will get you to Printers Hall!See you this summer!

Jessica C. White replied to the topic First Press Recommendations? in the forum Press Troubleshooting, Tips, and Help 11 years, 10 months ago
Hi Renee,The first presses that come to mind are the C&P Pilot or the Adana table-top platens. But it might be worth your while to dig a little deeper about what’s the best press for you, for now and one that you can continue using into the future. I’d suggest you take a look at this article at Letterpress Commons – http://letterpresscommons.com/ac…[Read more]

@joshbonnenberg No need for custom cuts – I’m thinking of ordering this size for some workshops where we don’t have access to a large paper cutter or board shears. It’s just handy to know the grain ahead of time to plan projects. Thanks!

@joshbonnenberg Hi Josh, a quick question – on your Mohawk Superfine 11×17, is it grain-long or grain-short?

You can post it for sale here – a description with some photos would be helpful, plus a price and location.You can also post it on Briar Press’s classifieds – http://www.briarpress.org/classifieds/, or on Ebay.

Sorry about the bad info. I got my blocks too, and at least the maple plank block really is type high. However, they are getting them from http://www.art-boards.com and marking them up slightly.

Argh. So annoying, but thanks for letting us know. I ordered a few blocks, but they haven’t arrived yet. And thanks for the note about art-boards.com!

@samanthaolson Hi Samantha,
Welcome to beautiful NC! Will you be moving to this area? (I’m in Asheville, on the west side in the mountains.) Yes, of course you’re welcome to come visit. But just so you know – I’ll be moving my studio this fall, from a rented space to the basement in my new home – so it might be in transition when you visit!
Cheers,
