As an accountant I wholeheartedly agree. QuickBooks will save you tons of time going forward. And if you decide to hire an accountant later, the transition will be seamless.

Hi Jen! Just sent you a friend request, so I could send you a message. I’m definitely interested, because my bride definitely wants the Savoy paper for sure! I got a few samples of the envelopes from Reich…and I’m seeing that these are definitely unique envelopes…the flap sits a little higher than what I’m used to seeing. I’d love to discuss…[Read more]

Hi all. Every small business owner I’ve talked with about this recommends QuickBooks. They say it’s horribly time-consuming to set up, but once you do it’s all there and easy to enter stuff. So, I guess it’s front end time to save ongoing time. I hear QuickBooks also merges beautifully with TurboTax which may help in tax prep (ugh).Just passing…[Read more]

Sorry to chime in a bit late here… We offset Lettra 110 lb. frequently, often in combination with letterpress on one or both sides. The old Lettra formulation (before the line was bought out and reformulated) was difficult for offset — we had to clean the press blankets every 50 sheets due to linting. Now the paper’s changed significantly…[Read more]

Ditto to the two replies above (disengage the finger that rotates the disc) + add transparent base in between the two colors. This helps extend the hue of the original colors and prevents them from mixing too quickly. On some presses there are little separators that you can add to help prevent the colors from mixing as well — see the attached…[Read more]

@yokomegro Hi Yoko,
My trip to Taiwan was fantastic! I really wish I could have stayed for longer than 10 short days. I did get a chance to visit Ri Xing Typefoundry – thanks so much for telling me about it. I’ll probably post a quick blog post about it here with some photos sometime this week 🙂

I do the same, but I require the balance to be paid before the job ships.

I don’t have a contract, but I send them an invoice and ask for a 50% deposit up front. The remaining 50% is due upon receiving the finished work, net 30. My invoice is based on a Microsoft invoice template in Word, but personalized with my logo, contact info, etc. I haven’t had any problems with getting paid yet, but I haven’t been doing this as…[Read more]

Same thing happened with me and Outright! I thought it was the perfect option, something so streamlined and simple (and free!), but I was a little irritated when they suddenly started asking for payment. I probably would’ve been fine with the cost if I knew about it up front 🙂 After a lot of research and asking a bunch of questions, I went ahead…[Read more]

This has been a major hurdle for me! I just started using Freshbooks (http://www.freshbooks.com/) for estimates, invoices and time tracking. So far I love it. My business is itty bitty right now, so I just use the free version. I tried Outright, but they lost me as soon as they got rid of the free option. Accounting Spot ([Read more]

I used Outright for last year’s taxes,and still had to do lots of paper stuff to get all the info right for the accountant. Have also worked with QB in the past, although everything has to be set up correctly from the start in order for it to work well, and I still needed an accountant to sort out some of the details (probably caused by my…[Read more]

If it leads some to true letterpress, more power to them…it’s just an expensive trail to follow. I’ll keep looking around for the real thing!

Hi Kristina! What I’ve done in the past is custom cut liners to fit the envelopes if liners didn’t exist in the right size or when the client wants a special paper. I use a die-cutter and create a custom template. I would be happy to cut them for you if that would help, if your timeline allows. Feel free to send me a message if you want to discuss. Jen

@jessicacwhite Hi Jessica!
Thanks for the invite and all your help with my press! I got the baby Kelsey ome today – it is already in the upper 90’s in Iowa and the press got so hot I burnt my hand on it! HA! (Luckily my new rollers didn’t turn into hot butter!) I am so excited I finally get to join the cool LoLP officially! You rock! 🙂
