John Sutherland replied to the topic Ink bleeding slightly… how to ensure a crisp print? in the forum Press Troubleshooting, Tips, and Help 15 years, 1 month ago
Looking at your pics it could be to much impression overall. Ideally the impression should be just kissing the paper not squeezing to heavily into it. Maybe a fresh packing and less pressure might solve the problem.Ink may also be an issue. There used to be (I’m going back quite a few years here) an ink called G Man which was very stiff and less…[Read more]

@kseniyathomas Thanks for looking. The drawers look so pretty on the outside…..but horror of horrors….when I moved into my new studio, someone tipped one of my type cases on its side….everyone froze when we heard the sounds of cascading lead bits hitting the floor.

They charge $10 per size. So for example if you are having your paper cut to A6 and A2 then it would be $20.As an update, I decided to go to Kelly Paper to get my paper cut. They were super nice and actually only charged me for 2 of the 3 cuts they did. 🙂

Thank you for the quick response!I do not have any immediate plans for purchasing a paper cutter. First on my list of equipment is going to be my very own press so I wont have to rent time at another studio :)I think I will just have to up my quantities enough to make the $10 worth while. (Those $10 fees are going to add up quickly!)

Hi Adina!I think that you would save money in the long run (in paper waste alone) by paying the $10 to get the parent sheets cut down by Kelly Paper. Due to past experience, I would absolutely say do not take it to Kinko’s! Generally, they are not familiar with Lettra or any papers commonly used in letterpress printing. It’s best to take your…[Read more]

you’re so quick Camille! yes- that website is really helpful.just remember, not all type is equal. some of that old stuff could be worn down creating the unlevel look when adjusting. also remember, when adjusting- just a hair of adjustment could be all that is needed! these old machines are tricky, but that’s what makes them fun!

@thedarkstamper Good luck with locating all the bits n pieces! I am finding it so interesting and fun being part of such a close and small community! Its impossible getting anything in Australia so sourcing from the US is my only option but postage is a killer! Thank goodness there is a 12 hour time difference, I work late in the evenings so its…[Read more]

Ah yes, worked out the prefix – it just didnt match any of the ones in our directory! (feel like such a dufus!) Bummer about paper. Although our dollar being as good as it is, its cheaper to pay $200 freight for a substantial amount than purchase it here. We have a limited selection of distributors and paper- there is only one place I can get…[Read more]

Sorry, Davina, we don’t sell paper unless of course we print on it first ;)Our telephone prefix is 315, so I believe you would dial:0011 1 315 473 0930What paper are you looking for? I suppose it must not be distributed in Australia? Paper is heavy and would probably cost a lot to bring over yourself, I would think.
