Barbara Jean Yaple replied to the topic can any identify this press? in the forum Press Troubleshooting, Tips, and Help 9 years ago
Hi Laura,I used to have one for my son to play with while I was in the shop! I can’t for the life of me remember the name, but I will trot out to my “at home” shop and see if it is still around. I assume you aren’t going to do serious printing on it, right? It was certainly a treat–and a trip down memory lane–to see the picture of it!Thanks for…[Read more]

Hi CamilleI’m setting up on a Heidelberg Windmill & yes, I’m using heat. My concern or question here is that I typically use duploflex tape to mount my counter to the platen. If I place paper UNDER the counter, I’m concerned it will move/shift, possibly causing damage to the die or counter. This is a $600.00 die & I don’t want to screw it up! I…[Read more]

What kind of press are you using? Does it have heat? A floating makeready is where you tape a piece of paper to the platen. I like to use 25% rag bond paper. The counter for the die is taped to the die or if it has locating pins use those. Close the press up on impression to release the counter. You can use a spot makeready sheet under the paper…[Read more]

I’m currently trying out gmund cotton from lci. Not as soft as lettra so deep impression can be tough with my c&p table top, but scores and folds better. I’m going to run a few and compare with the savoy. I think I may go back to that.I also bought some gmund felt to see what it’s like. It takes the ink very nicely but has almost a glimmer to it…[Read more]

Hi, Teresa from Little Trees Studio. I will be at the show on Monday. Would love to go to dinner with any of you Ladies if you are not too exhausted. I’ve worked a few trade shows and I know they are tiring, but everyone needs to eat! See you there.

Thank you! How often to you oil your press and how do you do so (if I’m wearing you out on questions, feel free to stop answering). 🙂 I read that there are small oil holes here and there on the press? Not sure where to look for them.

I prefer oil based ink, I will use mineral spirits to wash up the ink and go on press with another color. Rubber base ink can remain open on press without drying but I clean mine up when finished printing, personal preference.Simple green spray bottle works really good for cleaning off the grim, wear gloves. Yes, after you’ve removed the grim then…[Read more]

Thanks so much Casey.Ink: I’ve read some good things about rubber and oil-based inks. Why do you prefer oil?Initial cleaning: It’s got dirt, debris, and oil on it. Should I clean before de-rusting with warm water and a soap of some kind?Best,Emily

Well if anyone else runs into this issue I finally figured out what it was. You do need to wrap the majority if not all of the packing over the entire cylinder including in the front where it grips the paper.

Mine arrived yesterday. Making it a Good Mail Day. While the snow built up to 12 inches I ignored it and spent a very fun 2 hours perusing the contents. Some mighty fine printing.
