davina farinola replied to the topic InDesign or Illustrator? in the forum Design Side 13 years, 7 months ago
Illustrator is good for single page illustrations and layouts.InDesign is best for multi page type based documents like brochures and magazines. Both have limitations that you can overcome by creating in the other piece of software (including Photoshop) and importing into each other as they work pretty seamlessly together. (eg if you have all 3…[Read more]

Re the wobble… seems like Im stressing the poor thing out too much. Am not sure if you are a member of the Pearl restor listserve http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PearlRestor, but they have offered a few good bits of advice. Mainly regarding the % of the chase you should expect to print (apparently no more than 1/8 of the size of the chase (that…[Read more]

Heaps of ideas here thanks so much. I used good old craft stamp pads – for card-making and scrap booking etc. If u get the small stamp pads that you can pinch between your thumb and forefinger, then you can just dab it along the sides of a stack of cards. (similar to the method in a previous part of this thread using acrylics) The stamp pads a…[Read more]

davina farinola replied to the topic Uneven Inking/Re-Leveling the Platen in the forum Press Troubleshooting, Tips, and Help 13 years, 10 months ago
Bit of an old thread but simple question, when leveling the platen by adjusting the screws, if I have an un-packed platen, should you aim for good deep impression or just a ‘kiss’ and rely on the platen packing to gain a deep impression after its leveled? – have been debating with father!

davina farinola replied to the topic mixing pantone inks in the forum Job Advice 13 years, 10 months ago
I have the new pantone formula books which only has the % breakdown formula but my colleague has an older version and it has ‘parts’ and %. (I’m not sure if I just got the wrong version or if the no longer put parts?)Parts do look a lot easier than percent because they are a little easier to ‘divide down’ (My math isnt really good!)Anyway, he…[Read more]

I did a little experimenting on the weekend and found if they were vertical (Or just about) rather than laying flat, with a bright sun above but slightly behind the artwork (ie not at noon mayb 10am or 2pm) otherwise, if you’re not from such a sunny place strong lighting slightly behind vertical artwork could work too.

@thedarkstamper Good luck with locating all the bits n pieces! I am finding it so interesting and fun being part of such a close and small community! Its impossible getting anything in Australia so sourcing from the US is my only option but postage is a killer! Thank goodness there is a 12 hour time difference, I work late in the evenings so its…[Read more]

Ah yes, worked out the prefix – it just didnt match any of the ones in our directory! (feel like such a dufus!) Bummer about paper. Although our dollar being as good as it is, its cheaper to pay $200 freight for a substantial amount than purchase it here. We have a limited selection of distributors and paper- there is only one place I can get…[Read more]
